A MAKE-UP artist has given an insider’s view into the industry after it faced a challenging year – plus reveals what its like working with Corrie-star Helen Flanagan.
Bolton-based Helen Cafferky usually creates glamorous bridal looks and has travelled to weddings all across the country, sometimes getting up at 3am in the morning to get their on time.
With weddings being postponed due to the pandemic, this year has been rather quiet but Helen has still done the make up of Helen Flanagan, who played Rosie Webster in Coronation Street from 2000-2002, before reprising the role in 2017.
The actress turned influencer was looking for someone to do her make up when working with brands for affiliated posts – where social media stars promote products on their pages.
This can mean a glamorous make up look for a fashion brand, or something more toned down for everyday items.
Make-up artist Helen said: “Working with Helen was really lovely, she was so nice.
“She was the first person I’d done make up for in a while as we’d just come out of the second lockdown, so we spent a lot of time chatting.
“We both have young children and are of a similar age so we had a lot to talk about.
“It gives me a social media boost too as the photos of her get lots of likes. It would be great to work with her again.”
Helen began working as a make-up artist seven years ago, and one of her biggest inspirations is Lisa Eldrige, who has worked with brands some as Lancome.
Although this year has seen fewer weddings, Helen is looking forward to creating bridal looks again next year if larger events are allowed to take place.
As many people went bare-faced during lockdown, Helen believes that this year has changed our relationship with make-up.
She said: “This year has been hard, but I’m excited and nervous to go back to work.
“I think people will go either way with make-up after lockdown. I certainly prefer having a more natural look these days, I want my skin to look like skin.
“But some people will want to go full glam when they can finally go out.
“I wouldn’t say I have any hard or fast rules when it comes to make-up but one thing I always advise is make sure you wear an SPF everyday.”
